Practice Area: Construction - General, Job Type: Attorney, Firm Type: Law Firm, Experience: 3 Years, A law firm is seeking a Construction Law Associate Attorney in Cerritos, CA, with the following responsibilities and qualifications:Job Overview:The Construction Law Associate Attorney will be responsible for handling construction contract claims, both public and private, with a focus on contract extras, delay damages, impact damages, and assessment of liquidated damages. They will also manage mechanic’s lien law, stop notices, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bonds.Duties:Handle construction contract claims, public and private, excluding construction defect work experiencePrepare cases for trial/arbitration, including participating in arbitration or trial proceedingsManage mechanic’s lien law, stop notices, bid protests, and public contract lawAssess contract extras, delay damages, and impact damagesUnderstand and apply substantive law surrounding construction claimsUtilize knowledge of alternate project delivery methodsConduct depositions of percipient and expert witnessesDraft motions, depositions, and letters related to construction litigation issuesPrepare and execute discovery plansInteract with clients professionally and competently, addressing legal and strategic practical issuesTake ownership of matters and develop strategic courses of actionDemonstrate a self-starting attitude and excellent follow-through skillsRequirements:3-5 years of experience handling construction contract claimsExperience with arbitration and preparing cases for trial/arbitrationKnowledge of mechanic’s lien law, stop notices, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bondsFamiliarity with alternate project delivery methodsDeposition experience with both percipient and expert witnessesLaw and motion experience involving substantive law and discovery issuesExcellent writing skills for motions, depositions, and letters regarding construction litigation issuesAbility to handle and manage written discovery and depositionsStrong interpersonal skills to interface with clients professionally and competentlyEducation Certifications:Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law schoolAdmission to the California State BarAny relevant certifications in construction law or arbitration are a plusSkills:Strong understanding of construction law principlesProficiency in legal research and writingAbility to analyze complex legal issues and provide effective solutionsExcellent communication and negotiation skillsDetail-oriented with strong organizational skillsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases This California firm was founded in 1979 and focuses on employment, labor, construction, education, real estate, general business and business litigation, corporate, taxation, bankruptcy, and immigration.
