JOB TITLE: Lead Radiologic Technologist EXEMPT : No REPORTS TO: Office Manager SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing all radiology examinations and overseeing the production of x-rays by staff technologists; establishing and maintaining policies and procedures that conform to the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 17 and the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR 20); establishing and maintaining controls for all x-ray files leaving and arriving at the office; training other employees to perform X-ray assistant tasks, under the supervision of the X-ray Supervisor . DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all x-ray examinations, practicing radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to the patient and staff. Selects the appropriate exposure technique factors for the patient's size and condition, to ensure adequate image quality and diagnosis. Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtains patient cooperation. Screens patients for potential pregnancy. Maintains x-ray and ultrasound equipment in good working order. Schedules routine maintenance and calibration. Maintains adequate supply of inventory of x-ray supplies. Orders and controls all x-ray supplies and materials following Company's supply procurement policies. Maintains and controls all x-ray files leaving and arriving at the office (downloading, uploading CDs, HIPAA compliant e-mail), uses approved tracking methods. Maintains complete dosimetry records and ensures timely mailing of badges. Answers phones, performs front office/back office procedures as instructed by the Office Administrator or X-ray Team Leader. Assists as needed to provide x-ray images for medical records. Attends staff meetings. Attends required training sessions for front and back clinical staff. Establish es policies and procedures that will ensure the obtaining of diagnostic quality radiographs with the lowest acceptable exposure (ALARA) to the patient, x-ray personnel, and the general public. Verif ies that x-ray personnel possess the appropriate documents, licenses, certifications: Radiologic technologists possess the current diagnostic radiologic technology certificates: ARRT, CRT, CPR . Limited permit x-ray technicians possess current permits for the procedures they perform: CRT, Digital Certificate, CPR . Maintains, amends, and updates the Radiology Policy and Procedure Manual to comply with California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 17 and the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR 20). Maintain s , amend s and update s x-ray order protocols specifying all x-ray views with explanatory notes, illustrations and references for x-ray techs. Establishes an equipment checklist for training newly hired x-ray techs in safe use of machinery and software. Ascertains that all radiologic technologists and x-ray assistants are familiar with the x-ray and ancillary equipment they use and carry out their assigned duties correctly and conscientiously. Provide s safety rules which include: Restrict s exposure limits to technique charts posted or written into computer software. Manipulat es equipment and software within the limits established in the equipment checklist. Require s that the radiologic technologists demonstrate familiarity with the safety rules. Oversees annual clinic staff in-service to include: Health problems associated with exposure to radiation. Correct s x-ray order protocols and patient preparation for x-ray examinations . R eport s promptly to Senior Management any condition which may lead to or cause a violation of the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 17 and Code of Federal Regulations ( 10 CFR 20 ). Oversees participation in X-Ray externship program. Performs other related duties as assigned by management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises 8- 10 employees within the X-Ray department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of accredited radiologic technology program. Certificates, licenses and registrations required: CRT/ARRT Certified. CPR Certified. Valid California driver's license (to allow for travel between offices) and minimum legal automobile insurance requirements. Computer skills required: Windows; Word and Excel as well as all other software utilized by radiologic technologists. Other skills required: Five years practical experience as a technologist. Must have superior patient service attitude and skills. All communications to co-workers, patients and clients must be courteous. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Bilingual in Spanish is helpful but not required. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Occasionally exposed to risk of electric shock. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate-loud. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Occasionally required to participate in patient lift team. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: Must be able to operate all x-ray equipment and other equipment commonly utilized by x-ray techs, including personal computers and software.
