The Department of Public Works manages 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, 4,100 bridges, and 9 provincial ferries. Our District Highway Operations Division plays a critical role in managing various programs, functions and activities throughout our province, including snow and ice control services, road maintenance and repair services, and approval of various permits. We’re recruiting for a District Director in the Western District to lead change and provide strategic direction in the delivery of highway maintenance and construction programs. This is your opportunity to have a direct impact on economic development within the province, as well as the safety of the traveling public. About Our Opportunity As the District Director you lead the efficient and effective delivery of highway construction, maintenance and administration services. Through the planning and coordination of Department activities, you ensure the road network within your District is well maintained. Primary Accountabilities Your engineering expertise is instrumental in providing innovative solutions for complex construction and maintenance situations. You will establish the efficient utilization of resources for roadway surface and bridge maintenance, inspections, and snow and ice control services; all the while ensuring adherence to the various policies and acts which guide the industry. You are pivotal in building relationships with key stakeholders and will have frequent communications with the Executive Director for Highway Maintenance and Operations, Chief Engineer, Deputy Minister, and other senior government officials.
